Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t going to be censored in Australia.
CD Projekt RED has confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 has received an R18+ classification from the Australian rating board. Content that would usually be deemed dark and inappropriate by authorities will not be censored for Australian players. They can play the game the way the creators intended them to!
“Receiving an age rating in Australia was an important milestone on our way to releasing the game in September.
We’re creating a mature title for a mature audience, so we were expecting R 18+. We haven’t had to alter the game in any way and Australian gamers are set to enjoy the full Cyberpunk 2077 experience.”
– Kuba Kurtzuba, CD Projekt RED
Since the Australian Classification Board is often known to refuse mature video game ratings, CD Projekt RED’s John Mamais has expressed concern about this possibility. Mamais had hoped that since the content of the game is controversial and mature, a higher rating would be considered. Especially since the studio had to edit The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings to ensure they met the right rating requirements.
Cyberpunk 2077 will be available on September 17 on PS4 and other major gaming platforms.
